Task 5 - Flowchart for Tea app

How to make a cup of tea

Believe it or not you have been asked to bid on a contract for an instructional app that will teach users, step by step, how to make a cup of tea. To win this bid you must create a flow chart demonstrating the functionality of the app.

Use the common flow chart symbols to create an overview of the processes that are required and the user inputs and the outputs.

This task sounds relatively easy until you realize that you are not simply explaining to someone how to make a cup of tea, you are showing the process that an app will take to explain to someone how to make a cup of tea. This makes the flowchart considerably harder.

Below are some simple symbols that are commonly used to create simple flowcharts.

Basic Symbols

I wanted to include another symbol which is the symbol for a delay, this symbol shows that the user will have to wait for the kettle to boil and also he will have to wait for the tea bag to soak in the mug. This symbol is on the flowchart and is shown in green. The flowchart has been color coordinated and has a key, to help distinguish between the different shapes and to make it easier to follow. The flowchart can be seen below.

Advert for online service

Gumtree is an online service that is designed to allow people to buy and sell online within there communities, Gumtree allows a user to place a classified ad online, these ads can be for;

  • Services
  • Job offers
  • Houses to rent/buy
  • Selling unneeded items
  • Selling vehicles
amongst other things.

Here are a couple of Gumtrees previous adverts;

These adverts are very easy going and are not too serious which is why I have decided to design my advert in the same manner of these adverts. These adverts are very short and individually only concentrate on one aspect of what Gumtree has to offer, which is why I have decided not to focus on just one of the services that Gumtree offers.

Storyboard

Script

The advert will start with an empty room.

V.O – Need to furnish a room?

Suddenly the room will be furnished with musical equipment, as this happens the sound of a pop will be heard. The next shot will then be of an old broken down car.

V.O - Need a new car?

The car will transform into a bright shiny car again the pop will be heard. The ad will then move to a garden that is in poor condition.

V.O – how about a gardener?

A gardener will suddenly appear and the garden will look neat and tidy, the sound of the pop will be heard again. The next shot will be a cartoon world spinning around.

V.O – There is no need to go half way around the world.

A cartoon map will appear with an animation of a dotted line moving from one house to another.

V.O – Buy locally in your community.

The Gumtree logo will then appear.

V.O - Come to Gumtree.

Then there will be a shot of money appearing with the pop sound every time a bundle is added. This will move on to an image of different services that could be available and then onto a man in a suit.

V.O – whether you’re buying or selling, offering a service or if you have a job offer.

The logo will then appear again followed by the website address; this will be accompanied by a short jingle.

V.O – Gumtree is local and has what you need, Visit Gumtree.
